You know what bugs me? People who are afraid of food. And sorry I’m not sorry for admitting it. I’m into the good stuff, but a little food porn now and then never hurt anybody. Like these Nutella-Swirled Chocolate Chunk Peanut Butter Blondies? I’ve been lusting after them for days (9 to be exact, because they were posted on June 3. Thanks a lot Ambitious Kitchen!).
So what’s my point? That attending BlogHerFood in Austin this weekend was a little piece of heaven. For obvious reasons, Austin is on my top cities list, though I’ve only ever been there in the scorching months of June and July. P.S. Kristen, I never did get to try that Topo Chico you’re always raving about. But even more so because I was surrounded by food bloggers who (like me) JUST. LOVE. FOOD. And that is a beautiful thing. Just search #blogherfood on Instagram and you will see how beautiful it is. And be prepared for lots of photos of migas!
Technically, I was at the conference to network on behalf of my company (which was great), but that’s another story. I started the conference off right by wining and dining on the rooftop of the world headquarters Whole Foods Market. I always laugh thinking back to Aaron’s first time in Whole Foods ever, which happened to be at this location. Between free sushi, beer tastings and live music, I didn’t think he would ever want to leave. You have to make a stop if you’re in town.
The first night’s dinner was at an “upscale” diner that focuses on seasonal and organic – 24 Diner – where I went real crazy and ordered the best meatloaf I’ve ever had (complete with bacon-braised green beans) after sipping a watermelon basil cocktail. The rest of the trip can be summed up in photos (which BTW, according to the uber-talented White On Rice Couple, I can now master via mobile. Just gotta download Snapseed and VSCO Cam apps, then practice away). There are less photos than I would have liked, but cut me some slack, my phone battery doesn’t last more than a few hours these days. Here we go:
Mingling and making new friends. Pictured here with the dear Monique from Ambitious Kitchen and another friend from my former PR agency life. We got down together with 6th Street’s finest.
Other favorite new bloggers I met at BlogHer Food obviously have Kansas ties! Climbing Grier Mountain (a fellow Denver transplant and K-State grad) and Gimme Some Oven (KC lady). Add them to your daily reads for killer recipes!
Keeping Austin weird, y’all. And yes I have the Tyler’s shirt.
Tacos are the name of the game – at Maria’s Taco Xpress on S Congress and really everywhere. This was prior to the 3-mile walk back downtown because we couldn’t find any cabs.
